The Holidays

I am on an academic schedule. Therefore, I had the Thanksgiving holiday off.

To be honest, there are times when I'd rather that I didn't have this holiday off. Why?

Well, "quick" holidays seem to go like this:

  • leave work
  • pack
  • travel though bad weather, either flying on a packed airplane or driving on crowded roads
  • spend time with people that, to be honest, I probably wouldn't socialize with if I weren't related to them (blood or by marriage)
  • travel home, again either fighting bad traffic in bad weather, or putting up with crowded airports
  • arrive back home more exhausted than when I left
  • then, while in a sleep deprived state, attempt to catch up on missed work.
  • Spend about another week unpacking
But, if I don't leave home for the above routine, my ever loving wife says "ok, we can have MY relatives over since you are here!"

A dream come true for me is to actually HAVE days off during the holidays, with no relatives, noise, etc.

Wife with a sense of humor

One thing that I love about my wife is that she has a sense of humor.

Some time ago, she asked me the dreaded "do these pants make my butt look big" type of question: "honey, are these pants too tight?" Fortunately, I have a digital camera and was able to take a quick photo and let her judge for herself:

(no, she wouldn't have wanted me to post the photo)

Anyhow, as she left for work, I playfully caressed her butt and kissed one of her gluteal cheeks. She took it in stride and said: "if any other guys do this to me while I am at work, I'll know that my pants really were too tight!"

I had to laugh!

First Post

Hi. Welcome to Rock in the Shoe. This is an anonymous blog where I'll discuss life in general.

No, that isn't my photo; I really like it though.

Me: married, darned close to 50 years old, with modest accomplishments and a desire to get stuff off of my chest in a manner that won't hurt the feelings of those that I love.
