Over the years, there have been changes in local footraces. The crowd has become less serious and far slower.
But what you are seeing more and more of is a plethora of women of the following type: early 30's, usually dark haired, white, and dressed in a white technical top and black spandex on the bottom. Few are fast at all; most run in the 8-10 minute per mile range (or slower).
But they are always good for some visual entertainment, if you love seeing some feminine butt-crack.
Besides, their finishes count and help old, slowing runners pad their finish statistics. :-)
